Description
Festkogel is a 2269 m high peak in national park Gesäuse. Most routes ascend the south-west face via water grooved slabs in various difficulties. Bolting on older routes is sparse and reminds of the boldness of the climbers first ascending these routes. Newer routes are moderatly bolted and supplementing with trad gear is often possible.
Getting There
Follow the marked hiking path towards Hesshütte. After about 45 min follow a sign to the left towards Hochtor. After another 20 min the path splits again. Follow the sign for climbing to the left over a medow and later through a tallus field directly to the slabs of Festkogel Vorbau. The Vorbau can either be climbed via one of the established routes or passed via a loop to the right in 4th class terrain.
The route Kleehummel starts at the lowest pont of the wall and the start is marked with an orange dot.
