Description

The rock is a coarse granite, with various features - flakes, slopers, lobes, scoops, edges, cracks, slabs. A diverse delight. Landings are generally good, just watch out for small cactuses and agave. Some boulders are truly gigantic.

A good all-year bouldering area, excepting snowy winter days. Moderately forested with alligator junipers and oaks, creating some shade. There is a five-dollar permit fee for the Boat Launch parking area. The lake can be crowded while the trail is secluded.

Getting There

Take trail 345 northward for five minutes from the Boat Launch parking lot, past the restrooms. You will notice an opening in the fence on your left. Walk through this, and Garden Gate Boulder will be immediately in view.
