Fort Collins, Colo. (March 7, 2024) – to protect nesting birds of prey, the U.S. Forest Service is implementing annual area closures in several popular recreation areas throughout the Canyon Lakes Ranger District. The closures include Triple Tier, south of CO Highway 14; Boston Peak, north of CO Highway 14; Grazing Allotment Crag, northwest of Prairie Divide Road; and Mt. Olympus, southeast of US Highway 34. See the closure map for more details. Effective through July 31, 2024, the closures protect established raptor territories to ensure the birds remain undisturbed during sensitive breeding and nesting seasons.
The Canyon Lakes Ranger District partners with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and the Northern Colorado Climbers Coalition to monitor nesting progress and to inform climbers about the importance of giving raptors space to raise their young.
Federal and state laws prohibit disturbing any nesting bird of prey. Visitors can help protect wildlife by respecting all closures. Signs will be posted at key access points into the closed areas. Additional closure information is available online.

Description
This is a series of walls near the Box Canyon drainage off of Long Draw Rd. With the main wall sitting above 10,000 feet, this is likely the highest proper crag in the Poudre Canyon and is in a peaceful subalpine setting, so it's as good of a summer area as any in northern Colorado. The Daily Bread Wall basically faces due east, so it gets afternoon shade starting around noon, and the whole wall is fully in the shade by 1pm. I have climbed in the morning many times here, so it can still be nice even with the sun shining on you, yet still intense at 10k feet. As with any higher elevation area in the mountains of Colorado in mid summer, there can be mosquitos and flies at times, so come prepared for that if visiting during those times. Frequent but often brief afternoon thunderstorms, especially during the monsoon mid-July through August, and a breezy day here and there help a lot to keep the bugs away too. The bugs basically disappear by late August or early September, so that is an extremely idyllic time of year to visit akin to many higher elevation climbing areas.
It might surprise you to see that most routes have lower off carabiners on the anchors. Please leave these alone for the use and safety of all climbers who visit these crags. Our hope is that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at these mountain crags. Much love and effort was put into developing these routes with the hope that many would find respite from the heat of northern Colorado summers in this special place.
I would advise wearing a helmet, as this is a new crag, and there will likely be a little bit of breakage here and there. There is probably more to be done across the drainage near where The Wanderings is, as well as elsewhere in the vicinity if you have an adventurous spirit!
Approach
Park off of Long Draw Road, and aim for the first cairn that should be visible from the road (see the approach picture/map for generally where to park and start hiking). Please try to get your vehicle mostly off the road and in the "pullouts". There are multiple places you could pull off and park in the vicinity of the GPS coordinates and marking on the approach map. Follow the cairns to the crag.
Parking GPS coordinates are: 40°33'55.2"N 105°49'59.2"W or 40.565334, -105.833102.
per Ken Duncan: The parking is 2.1 miles from highway 14. Use the GPS coordinates as the start of the trail is not obvious.
