WET ROCK: Holds rip off and climbs have been and will continue to be permanently damaged due to climbers not respecting this phenomenon. After a heavy storm the rock will remain wet, sometimes for several days. PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN MOAB during or after rain.
RAPTOR CLOSURES: please be aware of seasonal raptor closures. They occur annually in the spring.

Description
This is a large slab of Dakota Sandstone facing West along the NW ridge of Gold Knob. The slab is approximately a 1/4 mile wide and 300ft tall at its highest point. There are ample options for scrambling up. The wooded area between the two large scree fields provides the most bang for your buck in terms of vertical movement on rock. The rock is mostly solid with the occasional loose hold. I would consider most of the climbing fifth class but there are many options to add or subtract difficulty with the line and moves you choose to make. There are no bolts or anchors, however there is lots of options for placing small gear (micro-0.75ish), tying off chicken heads, or using scrub oak/pine trees as protection or for belays if you choose to climb with a rope and gear. This makes for a great day of training for any upcoming alpine adventures if you live in Moab or want to given your arms/hands a break while still getting to play on rocks. Super fun area to go and play around on with anything from climbing shoes to tevas. This makes for a great 1/2 day outing with awesome views of castle valley/La Sals or a more exciting alternate Gold Knob Summit. It gets shade in the morning until the late morning where it then sees the sun all day.
Getting There
To get to the slab, park at the Hazard County Trailhead that is approximately 4.75 miles up the Warner Lake Road from the La Sal Loop Rd. The TH is on the L side of the Warner Lake Road below the lake. Hike up the Hazard County Trail about 0.2 miles and take a R up a drainage/game trail marked with a carin. This trail heads NW towards a little saddle. Once at the saddle stay R on a cattle/game trail, marked with carin, traversing along the W face of Gold Knob. This goes through bushes and scrub oak. Continue to a wooded area of pines/aspens and bush wack through the trees to a scree/talus slope. Cross the solid talus slop to another wooded area and bush wack a short way through here to the base of the slabs. The larges vertical gain on the rocks is between the two scree slopes, but you can start anywhere
