Please stay on the trails and stay out of closed areas on the ground and on the cliff

Most of the 14-acre property at Hanging Mountain has been designated as Priority Habitat by MassWildlife’s Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program (NHESP). As a result, Hanging Mountain and any work performed there is heavily regulated to ensure that the WMCC is in compliance with the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act and Wetlands Protection Act.

Description

Space Invaders is a compact little crag with some fun and surprisingly long moderate routes. Grades range from 5.9 to 5.11 on featured rock that is mostly solid despite some of it appearing otherwise (which is no doubt the result of careful and thorough cleaning by the FA crew).

Wear a helmet regardless, and do not climb past the anchors on this wall.

Getting There

Follow the main trail to the Cloud Buttress, then follow the cliff to the left to then next area over.

This area looks like a choss heap at first glance, but the rock is actually quite solid with a variety of features. All of the 9s are worth doing, maybe even worth waiting in line for? Nov 5, 2022

Hey, there is a rope on the anchor left of Kats in Seattle as of 12/24/23. For what it's worth, I thought staying on the arete feature would have been a squeeze/contrived, which is why I abandoned it. Staying in the trench out left would likely be easier, get more traffic, and potentially go on gear, but it would need a lot of cleaning and probably need a different anchor location.
