Description Suggest change

Oscura Della Luna or (the dark side of the moon) is a 200 meter tall by 150 meter long in north facing cliff at sits underneath Val Mesdi. This sector contains a number of modern bolted multi-pitch routes that tend to be in the sixth grade (french). The wall receives very little direct sunlight making it an excellent location for the hotter summer days. The wall is exposed to seeping from the cliffs overhead so it is advisable to avoid after heavy rains or while snow is still present above the routes. The rock style is pocketed limestone on slightly less than vertical terrain. Hardware spacing is generally safe in comparison with most of the dolomites. Perhaps an average of three meters in between bolts. Anchors are generally two bolts with a repel ring.

Descent: Routes can either be repelled or there is a walk-off option down the gully to the east.

Getting There Suggest change

20 min
Approach Oscura Della Luna from the lower parking lot at the top of the Sodlisia chairlift and next to Hotel Lujanta. There should be a trail map at the trailhead where you walk directly towards the cliff on a gravel maintenance road that windes through the picturesque valley floor. After passing under a glandular walk 80 m and turn left on a footpath. Follow the footpath across two small streams until you reach a dirt road where you will turn right. Follow the gravel road 220 m and cross a wooden Bridge. Continue another 50 meters or so until a faint footpath leads into the forest and trends right on switchbacks that lead to the base the cliff.
