Description
Site of the soon-to-be-annual "Drag Your Kids Out to Climb" festival (and parade!), Clown Show Circuit Bouldering Area is a series of short east facing cliffs due west of the small pond on the approach to Hidden Canyon (a few hundred feet NE of SJW Wall about half way in to the canyon). It makes a great place to bring kids (as well as beginners and brittle and/or fat old folks) as many of the routes are short, very easy, have good rock and great landings. As a plus, the location is secluded (with water for dogs!).
Left Cliff on the far left (south) side has the easiest climbs, while Right Cliff on the far right (north) the hardest. Middle Cliff in the middle is most moderate.
Getting There
These small east facing cliffs are due west of the small seasonal pond half way in to Hidden Canyon. Best approached from the NE (around the north end of the pond from the dirt road - as described below), but can also be approached from the SE (from the south end of the pond clearing head west across downed timber to follow the faint deer trail across the fence line and diagonally right up the slope to the north for a few hundred feet until you can see the small cliffs ahead).
From the parking off of Burge Mtn. FS Rd climb the gate and hike in on FSR 048 for about 10 minutes (4/10ths of a mile). Turn left off the dirt road right after the green gate and follow the faint trail north of the pond, continue along the fence line around the pond. On the west side angle up and right to the base of the cliffs - about 15 minutes total approach to reach the base of the climbs from the parking area.
