This is a large east-west trending buttress looming above lower French Gulch, high on the left (west) side of the valley when viewed from the Burnt River Road. The 2006 Falcon guide for Oregon called this French Gulch Spire possibly getting confused with a climb on the north side that is called Spire on some early maps. In no way is this feature a spire.

 French Gulch Buttress is the single biggest limestone formation in Burnt River Canyon. It is also a structurally complex piece of rock with 33 routes (as of May 2022) in five sectors: the three main faces - south, east, and north - along with two short satellite crags on the north side.

Begin up the trail/road approach to French Gulch Slab. Continue on the trail past the Slab for another 50 yds to the creek crossing. From here the two trails to South and East faces diverge from the French Gulch Trail. The North Face access trail takes off from the French Gulch Trail another 50 yds beyond the creek crossing.
