Description Suggest change

As evocative a place as the history of its namesake, Masada is off the beaten path and a bit farther. Boasting an Ibex-like quartzite cliff-band, (only larger in scale) this area has an epic and special feel. And camping within the juniper forest at its base is as good as it gets.

Getting There Suggest change

Like the Israeli fortress, you have to earn your access to it, but it's well worth it once you're there. Roughly 13 miles south of Ibex, follow the signs for Crystal Peak (the only stark white peak in the whole area, which can be seen from a distance when looking west.) Before veering left to Crystal peak, look for a dirt road taking you right (north) to where Masada is unmistakable in its grandeur.
