Description

This small sport climbing area is located on the outskirts of Trier, in the west of Germany, right near the border with Luxembourg. If you are visiting the World Heritage Site city of Trier, this is a convenient place to get some exercise. The cliff is generally sunny and is about a 10 minute (630 meter) uphill approach via a paved road that is closed to vehicles. While short, there are roughly 40 routes at the area, mostly in the 5.8-5.10 range.

Getting There

The crag is located in the small town of Igel, just southwest of Trier. Drive to coordinates of 49.712295, 6.543404. At this point there is a hairpin turn on the main street and a partially paved road going off left. The small road going off left is signed as a private road, but is ok to drive down it to the climbers' parking spot.

Drive northwest on the partially paved, single track road about 230 meters to a dirt parking area on the left. There will be a sign here designating this as climber parking. Coordinates for the parking are 49.713402, 6.541325.

Standing at the parking, you'll see there is a fork in the road. Take the right (paved/uphill) fork and walk uphill for about ten minutes (600 meters) to coordinates of 49.715326, 6.538463. At this point, the paved road that you have been walking up on will turn to the right and you should see a trail on the left that leads up to the crag.

Leave the paved road and follow the trail with stairs about 30 meters up to the right edge of the cliff. The right (east) edge of the cliff is located at roughly 49.715591, 6.538379 and has a ruined cement structure built into the cliff.

Note that if you were to continue following the paved road uphill, and stayed left, you would arrive at an overlook at the top of the cliff. Also, at the right end of the cliff (to the right of the ruined structure), there is a cement stairway that will take you to the overlook at the top of the cliff.
