Large and small river bed boulders in the beautiful canyon of the Rio Grande
A unique area that at one point in history was poised to be one of Costa Ricas climbing hot spots.
A few boulders where established here between 2000-2010.
Yet the canyons potential most likely holds a lifetime of adventures waiting to happen.
A very thorough guide was once put together and can be enjoyed here, Page 72 describes Atenas in full:

Getting There
Drive directly to the Museo Ferroviario Rio Grande de Atenas, park at the museum.
Cross the train tracks and look for any of the trails that head down into the canyon.
Its maybe a short 15 minute hike down towards the river.
Once you reach the river, you will see a large ruin of a large stone bridge footing.
This is part of the 1780 Puente de Mulas bridge.
The boulders are all around there on both sides of the river.
The largest and more developed ones are directly across the river in front of the old bridge footing.
