Description
This small dome is seen a short ways off on the right side of the road as you're driving through the clunky streambed after Isle of You. Though the chossy looking buttress facing the road looks less than ideal, the out-of-sight north face has some stellar climbs hiding in plain sight. A great place to practice some Cochise crack climbing, or to beat the heat (and the crowds!) at Isle of You.
Getting There
The Good: 15 minute approach!
The Bad: You have to hike uphill, darn...
The Ugly: The catclaw, oh my goodness, the catclaw.
Park at the Slavin Gulch Trailhead, at the top of the hill from the dry creek bed (where the road makes a sharp left turn).
Walk down the road to the dry creek bed and start walking east up the wash in the same direction as the dome in front of you. Walk for about 5 minutes, making sure to walk all the way around the dome until the north face is completely visible. Find a break up the hillside to your right and continue straight to the dome. Beware! A pretty solid wall of catclaw lines the right side of the creek bed and a premature exit of the wash could get you pretty scratched up. But fear not, a safe path does exist so look for a break in the foliage.
You could also approach from the Slavin Trailhead, but it's less direct and a slightly longer walk.
