Description
Overall Run Falls is one of the most consistently "in" ice in Virginia. At 93ft it is the tallest water fall in Shenandoah National Park. It is North West facing and sits in the shade most of the day.
Getting There
You can approach the falls from both the bottom and the top however it's likely that the top (skyline drive) will be closed if it's cold enough to be climbable.
Bottom Access: Approach Time = 1:30-1:45 [2.9 Miles, 1,347ft Vertical Gain] Park at the Thompson Hollow Trail Head (GPS 38.802, -78.314) at the end of the state-maintained State Route 630, where the pavement ends. There is parking for about 10 cars. Do NOT block the road or proceed up the private dirt road with your vehicle. Go straight from the parking across the chain gate down the gravel road and follow it until you enter Shenandoah National Park. For the next half-mile, gradually climb the slight hill to the top, where you will continue straight past the Tuscarora Trail on the right. In another 0.2 mile, you will intercept the Overall Run Trail. Turn left and continue on that trail occasionally crossing the creek bed for an easy and flat 1.5 miles you will then reach the switch backs and continue up a decently tough last mile of uphill hiking to the top of the falls. The trail is marked with Blue Blaze.
