Description Suggest change

College Woods is comprised of 250 acres of forests and fields owned by the University of New Hampshire in Durham. It is open to the public and a wonderful place to explore and recreate. There are a few small boulders and ledges of interest scattered around the northern section of the forest. The Sawmill offers the best climbing here and is not to be missed if you're in the area.

Getting There Suggest change

There are multiple parking and approach options depending on if you're driving, biking, or walking and whether or not you're a student at the University.

For those who are students and can park in the permitted lots or can walk or bike:

Park in the West Edge lot off of Mast Road and cross the street to the residential building. Look for an unmarked trail in the back right corner of the parking lot. This takes you into the College Woods trail system closest to the bouldering.

For those who are not students and are driving to town this is an option on weekends only:

Take Interstate 95 to exit 4 onto Route 16 North. Follow Route 16 for 5 miles to exit 6 and take a left turn onto Route 4 West. Take Route 4 for 8 miles to the Route 155A exit. Turn left off the exit and follow 155A for 1 mile through the University campus to the traffic circle. Take the first exit off the traffic circle and follow the road around Wildcat Stadium to it's end at a T intersection. Turn right and then immediately fork right and park along the side of Covolos Road. From there follow this trail map aiming for the trail that ends at the building marked Leawood Orchard on the map.

For those who are not students and are driving to town during the week:

Take Interstate 95 to exit 4 onto Route 16 North. Follow Route 16 for 5 miles to exit 6 and take a left turn onto Route 4 West. Take Route 4 for 4 miles to the Route 108 exit. Turn left onto Route 108 and follow it about a mile to the traffic light in town. Take a left at the light (to stay on Route 108), then an immediate right onto Mill Pond Road. Take Mill Pond Road a short distance to a right turn onto Faculty Road. Take Faculty Road to it's end and turn left onto Mill Road. Take Mill Road for a mile to a small parking lot on the right. Park here and follow this trail map, crossing the Oyster River and aiming for the trail that ends at the building marked Leawood Orchard on the map.
