Description
The Whale is the Navajo Sandstone formation above the Technicolor Wall. The rock quality is a bit softer and the area isn't frequented that often so be prepared for an adventure and tread lightly.
Getting There
Go just past the main Technicolor parking area. Turn right at the next dirt road (2.6 miles from Beef Basin turnoff), take this to a camp site and park. Please be aware of the fact that you are adventuring into a less frequented area and there is cryptobiotic soil, avoid damaging this. To get there, walk up the canyon until you reach the back. The drainage provides the path of least resistance. It will eventaully slab out and require an easy and low 5th class scramble to reach the rim. Once on the rim try to navigate as carefully as possible to The Whale. Anticipate a 45 to 60 min approach.
