The Dachstein area (Dachsteingebirge) is located at the boarder between Steiermark und Oberösterreich. The area is split in three parts, the actual Dachstein range, Grimming and Sarstein. Hoher Dachstein is the highest peak in the Dachstein range at 2995 m. The Grimming is the highest free standing peak of the alps at 2351 m. The Sarstein forms the boarder between Oberösterreich and the Ausseerland. It is also an isolated peak reaching 1975 m.
Apart from climbing and hiking many ski resorts are loacted throughout the region. For rest days there is also a broad assortment of cultural activites available.

The range is located half in Styria (Steiermark) and Upper Austria (Oberösterreich).
