Most of the 14-acre property at Hanging Mountain has been designated as Priority Habitat by MassWildlife’s Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program (NHESP). As a result, Hanging Mountain and any work performed there is heavily regulated to ensure that the WMCC is in compliance with the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act and Wetlands Protection Act.
More information about NHESP can be found here
Description
The Hanging Mountain Joint Stewardship Committee worked with the Army Corps of Engineers for several years to reopen the Corps Wall in 2024. The WMCC now has a formal agreement that will last for five years before it will be renewed. Please, do not leave trash, human or animal waste anywhere at Hanging Mountain, especially at the Corps Wall.
This wall is on Army Corps of Engineers land and has solid stone with some excellent sport and trad testpieces. Economy of Motion and Eminent Domain are some of the best routes anywhere.
Getting There
From parking lot, follow main trail to the Y and bear right following the sign toward "Grotto". This trail climbs through the talus and will drop you at the base of the Grotto and the crack route Indivisible. Turn right and head up the hill walking past the Murdock Wall and a broken vegetated wall. The Corps wall is at the bottom of the staircase at the end of the trail.
Please refer to the free pdf guidebook or the map on the kiosk.
