Description
The last buttress of stone to the right of Kathy’s corner separated from the main 1st buttress by a deep double corner system sporting wicked OW cracks on each edge.
For over forty years, this feature has been in plain view and overlooked. Credit goes to Courtney Scales for investigating this gem of an area. All the routes so far developed have been as good as anything at the same grade in Taylor Canyon. There is something for everyone from parents with kids beginning to climb to cutting edge athletes. Courtney and I have established 12 routes so far from 5.6 to 5.12 with more to come.
Additionally the Baby Butt Has the easiest ‘hike to’ anchors in Taylor Canyon. Just hike up the gully behind the Butt up to the Play Date Ledges, and access several anchors for easy toproping. Except for ‘works in progress’, all the routes are stellar leads with a mix of trad and sport climbing. Since starting to develop these new routes last year, we’ve seen lots of activity here, and folks seem to really like the additions.
Getting There
Locate the last big evergreen tree on the ground to the right of Kathy’s Corner. The space below its boughs has been dubbed the Day Care Center in keeping with the ‘Baby’ theme.
From the Day Care Center, everything above you is the Baby Butt. The bullet straight slightly over hanging OW crack is Courtney’s brilliant FA Rise Above.
