Description Suggest change

This often overlooked and bypassed area contains a few nice climbs, it's right off the Stairmaster, and many of the routes are suitable for top-roping. Most routes have overhanging and pumpy starts with varying degrees of slab-type difficulties above. It's shaded till about midday and then it bakes in the afternoon sun...nice in winter, not so much in summer.

There is a large pine tree rap station (anchor sling with rings) at the top of Flying Circus/The Hang/Johnny Moonshine.

It's called the Old Hemlock Grove because there used to be a large number of big hemlock trees in this area. Most all of them have fallen victim to the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, an invasive insect that has wreaked havoc on hemlocks in eastern North America. There are many smaller hemlocks around so there is some hope that they can survive.

Getting There Suggest change

Hike up the Stairmaster to where the actual steps end. Look to your right and find a faint trail leading over to the orange rock; most climbs can be accessed here. For the first few climbs listed, continue up just a bit further to the flat area on the trail and find the faint trail that leads towards the rock. The shallow crack line of "Organically Inclined" will be obvious on the wall.
