Description
The upper cliff hosts two dozen or so 40'-60' routes from 5.4 to 5.11 on extremely fractured basalt entablature. New routes at the upper cliff require extensive cleaning and may be a little chippy and loose. Be careful to follow the bolt line. If you stray to far from the bolts you will encounter large loose blocks. A helmet is a great idea. The view alone is worth the trip.
A small numbered tag has been attached to the first bolts of each route. The numbers are not in order. The tags will correspond to the tag number listed under route location. The nature of the area can make it difficult to give directions to a route or even identify them from photographs the tags are an attempt to solve this problem.
10 quickdraws plus anchor material will get you up most of the routes. Do to the nature of the rock some of the anchor bolts are spaced farther apart than what is typical at most areas. For this reason it is nice to have 2’ runners, a quad, or something else longer than standard sport draws. Many of the routes are equipped with lower off hooks.
