Monte Cristo Peak

Washington > Northwest Region > Darrington & Mt… > Glacier Peak Wi… > Monte Cristo Group

Description

The main peak of the area. Tall, pyramidal, and dominating from all sides. Due to position and elevation, there is always snow on the mountain, and not necessarily in glaciers. This hides the fact that the red volcanic breccia is less than perfect rock, and some routes can be done on moderate snow with some limited 3rd-4th class climbing. In contrast, little technical climbing has been reported, and what has is not destined to become classic. The summit views are excellent.

Getting There

Since it guards the very head of Glacier Basin, all approaches are from that trail. Leaving the trail and joining various ridges will assist in such endeavors.
