Description

New Dark Ages Crag is located up the East Fork (San Juan River) Road 2.5 miles from the US Highway 160 pavement. Check with the Pagosa Ranger District to see if the road is open. The road is generally closed Dec. to April/ May. Most of the bolts ( like 5 out of 6 ) are 3/8" by 5". The rest are 3/8" by 3" and only drilled in perfect rock. Some bolts are SS, but most are galvanized with "plated" Fixe hangers. Most are painted - silver means unpainted.

Getting There

Park at the cattleguard, walk downriver about 100 yards, then scramble a short, drilled, and blasted slab up to a near horizontal game trail that traverses right and above the steep, dirt slope below the crag. The crag is about 100 yards above the East Fork Road and is composed of dense, black basalt that varies in quality from near perfect to loose. The approach takes less than 5 minutes. The crag was developed in 2020- 2022.
