Description
This is a rarely visited area north of the Chalone Peak Trail, south of the Yaks and just west of the ridge connecting these two landmarks. It contains a number of climbs of all levels of size and difficulty but most are short, less than half a pitch, on OK rock.
The name of this area, and the pinnacle within it, is undoubtedly a tribute to Fritz Kasparek an Austrian mountaineer who was part of the four-man team which made the first ascent of the Eiger Nordwand in Switzerland in July 1938.
Getting There
The easiest and quickest way(read: least amount of bushwacking) to get there is to take the Chalone Peak Trail for about 0.5 mile past the Bear Gulch Reservoir to where the it reaches a distinctive saddle. Follow the open area to the north, up a ridge mostly staying on a faint climbers trail to the east(right) of the ridge. The climbs on Kasparek's Ridge are accessed by heading west(left) off the ridge at the appropriate point.
