Description
Hagar Mountain is a state natural area located within the Nicolet National Forest just east of the Mountain, WI. The area features numerous exposures of granite bedrock that rise up to 300 feet above the surrounding landscape. The natural area itself is quite aesthetic, with numerous rock outcrops that afford scenic views and has one of the few waterfalls on the Nicolet National Forest. Hagar Mountain can be split into two main areas: North and South, with HWY-W being the separating line. Currently, most exploration has been done on the Northern side.
NOTE: This land is owned by the U.S. Forest Service. At the time of this posting, we had received verbal permission by the land owner to boulder on the property provided it didn’t become overly crowded and stayed low impact. Please, leave no trace. No landing construction, stay on designated trails/approaches as much as possible, and if the parking areas are full, either find additional parking on the sides of nearby fire roads or simply visit a different crag for the day (Chute Pond is ~10 mins away!). The nearby Boy Scout troop also uses this area to practice rappelling, which is evidenced by the fixed bolts found at the summit of the Bear Paw Dome.
