Mad Creek has a nice hike, generally. This is mostly south-facing but sometimes shaded.

Head North of Steamboat on Elk River Road (RCR 129) miles after turning off of US Highway 40. After about six miles, there will be a dirt parking lot on the right side of the road, which is the parking lot for the Mad Creek Trail. Follow the trail up for the climbing. It's mostly, if not all, on the uphill side of the trail.
