Smokovac (Morača Canyon)

International > Europe > Montenegro

Description

Smokovac (Morača Canyon) is located about 5 km away from the city center of Podgorica (Montenegro's capital). This Limestone climbing area is in its infancy in terms of development and over time is sure to become a hot spot for Balkan bolt clipping. As of 2020 there were about 100 routes developed and many kilometers worth of beautiful rock still waiting to be discovered. Grades range from 3 - 10+ (UIAA) and are generally single pitch sport. The climbing season is year-round due to the orientation of the canyon along with the Mediterranean climate influence. Access is a breeze with a highway cutting straight through the climbing area although it does add a little gray noise to the scene. There is also a crystal clear river flowing along the valley floor that is perfect for a dip on the hot days.

Much of the climbing is located on private property so please be respectful in order to maintain good relations and keep access to this wonderful resource.

Getting There

Directions: From Podgorica take Highway M2 5 km northwest to Morača Canyon.
