Description
Getting There
The hiker's approach would likely only work for a multi-day camping trip due to its length and difficulty. There are a number of ways to get there, and searching for hiking or backpacking instructions for Warren Lake will give you the full list of options. I parked at the rest stop on the north side of I-80 and met up with the Warren Lake Trail via the Summit Lake Trail. The Warren Lake Trail takes you all the way to Warren Lake with good signage, and you pass by the most striking and developed cliff in the last mile on your way down to the lake. This is a strenuous hike - just under 7 miles from I-80 to the lake with almost constant elevation change. Expect at least three hours of hiking at a fast clip.
There may be a faster approach from dirt roads, but Forest Route 85 becomes a gated, private road miles from the lakes and I suspect other roads may be similar. If anyone succeeds in finding a more direct approach that doesn't require trespassing, please post an update here!
