Description
South Peak is the parent peak of Eagle's Peak and Mt. Harmon. There is a USGS marker at the top, and the summit offers good views of Mt. Herman, Pikes Peak, and Ormes Peak.
Robert Ormes “Guide to the Colorado Mountains” (1973) lists Mt. Harmon (aka Academy Peak) as the parent peak for South Peak and North Peak (aka Eagle’s Peak). However, a USGS marker a the top of South Peak indicates it is 15’ higher than Mt. Harmon. I am unsure why the peak is named "South Peak", since it is located to the West of Eagle's Peak and Mt. Harmon, but the name has stuck.
All three summits can be easily hiked in an afternoon.
Getting There
Follow the Eagle's Peak trail until you are close to the summit. Hike South to the saddle between Eagle's Peak and South Peak, then follow the saddle Southwest to the summit.
You can also start the hike from Stanley Canyon, but this requires far more bushwhacking.
A .gpx route with the trail is posted.
