The Granite Flume Rock facing Ledgemere is South Facing. Perhaps it is a bit odd that this area is indeed referenced in numerous resources as "granite flume", as no granite whatsoever is evident in the area:). Most rock faces East in the little canyon—“Windy Canyon”— to the east of the bigger rock formation. The lower angle broken up slabs face south.
This large rock outcropping and little canyon to the east is directly across the road from the Ledgemere Picnic area and parking lot. A trail leading toward the trail that formerly held the aqueduct paralleling Big Cottonwood Canyon's North flank starts right across the street from Ledgemere, at the upper part of the parking area. Initially, blocked by boulders, this well known trail leads west and begins as a paved asphalt trail for about 100’. At the end of the asphalt section is a great view of the “dome” and the mini canyon.
At the junction with the larger trail, continue north—uphill—into the little canyon apparently known as the Granite Flume (on topo maps). Strange name because it is all quartzite.
It is only about 10-15min from the parking area to the mouth of Windy Canyon.

The Highlines in this canyon are occasionally left up for a few days at a time, during these periods, members of the community are coming up to enjoy and check on the rigs most often in the evening after work hours. Please do not use a line that is unattended just because it is there, just like how you shouldn't just tie into a rope that is up on a climb, highlining takes some practice and things can and do go wrong that may require rescue. That being said, we welcome those who are interested in highlining to come out with us at any time, we just always ask that people contribute in some way. Join Salt Lake City Slackliners on facebook or follow slcslackliners on instagram to stay updated for when we are rigging. Sep 14, 2020
