Description
Black Widow Buttress is the formation on the south side of the "bottom" end of the lower lake, with several dark streaks running down it. The wall is slabbier than it appears from the lake. Rock quality is marginal in several spots and makes for a heads-up mountaineering experience. Like other faces on this side of the lakes, it sees morning sun and gets into the shade by early afternoon.
Getting There
From the saddle where the main trail gifts you a first glorious view of the entire cirque, head right and downhill along the trail, over the creek, to an area north of the lower lake often used for camping. From here, follow a faint trail (with occasional sections through slabs and willow) along the edge of the lake that wraps around the northwest side, make a couple of easy rock hops over drainage, until you find yourself amid the talus at the bottom of the buttress.
