Loon Lake Boulder

New York > Adirondacks > Northern Region

Description

This single boulder is the only boulder known around the loon lake area that I could find. The boulder is about 14 feet tall and has 4 different routes to get up. The top of the boulder is growing so make sure not to bother any of the life. The boulder can be climbed by two cracks and 2 other routes. This boulder stands out in a boulder cluster as the biggest one. Most of the other boulders in the cluster are about 3 feet max.

Getting There

Look at the addresses around the boulder because I was not able to find a very good way to the boulder. Look at the map and drive to the Oak Lane and Blue Spruce Drive intersection. Then go to the spot on the climbing map where the boulder is located. The boulder is located about 100 feet up Blue Spruce Road and then 20 feet of the road you will be able to see. It blends in with the surrounding forest so keep your eyes peeled! If you can give a better explanation of the location that would be great.

[Hide Comment] Colden, I have spent a lot of time in Loon Lake as I grew up in Vermontville, and as far as I know the whole village of Loon Lake (and the shoreline of it and nearby Bass Lake) is private. According to the map, this boulder is smack dab in the middle of a group of residences. There is a plethora of state land surrounding it, but my money would go on it being private. Jun 17, 2021
[Hide Comment] Yes, it is private. I've asked the submitter if he has permission; otherwise this will be removed. Jun 17, 2021

[Hide Comment] To whom who wanted to climb this boulder, This boulder is currently on private property but the owners of the property have said that it is fine to climb the boulder as long as all you are doing is climbing the boulder. Feb 17, 2022
