Description
Numerous boulders are nestled on the foothills of Table Mountain above wide open desert. Inaccessible with any moisture on the ground, it's always hot if you can get out here. Expect triple digit temps and no water available. This is truly Isolated climbing. I would have been about as surprised to see another climbing party out here as an actual wagon train rolling across the desert.
Several boulders here are listed in the back of the 2012 Capital Gorgeous guidebook by Jared Spaulding. Many more options exist for the adventurous pebble wrestlers.
Getting There
Couple ways to get there.
1. I found the best road to be south from Hanksville on 100E (Lonesome Beaver/Sawmill Basin road - depending on your map) for a few miles to a BLM sign pointing West (right) toward Lost Spring. This junction is at Lat 38.2940 Long -110.7150. In Aug 2020 the roads had been recently graded and all the way to the spring would be passable in 2wd, though the last bit is real rocky. Still, you never know with the roads out here so 4x4 is recommended. Travel is impossible with ANY vehicle with the slightest moisture on these trails.
2. Summarized from Spaulding's Capital Gorgeous guidebook: Take the Giles Townsite Road (7650 E) South. Ford the Fremont River and continue to a split 1.5 miles from Hwy 24, stay right, then another right at 3.0 miles. At 3.8 mi you'll cross a cattle gaurd and drop into a wash for .3 mi before rising onto the bench. This was the worst section of road when I went in early Aug 2020. At 6.34 mi another road comes in, but stay straight. Through a gate at 7.1 mi. At 9.8 mi, turn right onto BLM rd #0093. After that a few more small trails come in, but stay straight through those on rd 0093. Switchbacks start at 14.4 mi and the Lost Spring parking and dispersed camping are at 15.3 mi. I personally found this route to be more rough and rocky, but the first route had been recently graded so this is subject to change on a potentially daily basis.
