Description

Daeryuk-bong is a popular sport climbing summer crag in Busan due to the short approach, high concentration of easier routes, and and the shade it gets facing southeast. The crag is well developed with an upper and lower crag. The bolts and anchors are relatively well maintained, but there are definitely some routes that locals avoid due to bolts rusting and lack of upkeep. The rock is granite.
There is a big sign in between the upper and lower crag with all of the routes listed and numbered. The route name and grade are also painted on the rock at the base of each route.
If you like a quiet crag, avoid this place on Sundays. Most Koreans will travel here with a big group and run toprope on the routes like a climbing/training gym. Everyone is usually very friendly though and if you ask politely, you should have no problem getting a turn on a route. It obviously helps a lot if you go with someone that knows Korean or can speak a bit yourself.
Getting There
From the guidebook Climb:
In Busan, take the subway to Oncheonjang Station 온천장, on the orange line (Line #1). Cross the pedestrian bridge from the subway station, towards Home-plus, and take Bus 203 from the bus stop under the bridge. Get off at Sanseong Bus Stop 산성, one stop after East Gate 동문입구. There is a stone arch bridge by the bus stop. The trail, heading south, begins on the east side of the bridge. From the first fork in the trail, take the upper path that branches off to the right. Continue south for five minutes. There will be another fork in the trail. If you continue left, it will lead you to the lower wall and the path to the right will take you to the upper wall.
If arriving by car, set your destination to 금정산 남문 정류장 (Geumjeong-san south gate bus stop). Arrive from the 동문 (east gate) side or you'll run into a dead end. To be clear, your GPS route should have you passing through Busan National University on the southeastern part of Geumjong-san rather than from the west side. If there is no room in the side of the road for your car, you'll have to pay 5k to park in the parking lot. Cash or bank wire transfer.
