Description
Salzburg ("Salt Fortress") is a state of Austria located in the center of the country, bordering germany. It is officially named Land Salzburg to distinguish it from its capital Salzburg city. There is a variety of climbing (single and multi pitch) and hiking found in the region.
On rest days there are a ton of other things to do here. You can enjoy cultural events in the city of Salzburg including museums, classical music concerts and historic tours. You can tour the salt mine in Hallein ( salzwelten.at/en/) or spend time at one of many lakes. There are also a lot of small towns worth a visit like Bad Gastein or Werfen (home of the worlds largest ice cave). The Grossglockner High Alpine Road connecting Salzburg with Kärnten is the highest surfaced mountain pass road in Austria (Hochtor Pass, 8215 ft). The popular Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe overlook offers a panoramic view over the Pasterze Glacier, the Grossglockner massif, the Glocknerwand, and the Johannisberg in the northwest.
