Description
PLEASE NOTE;
The climbing at Harbison Canyon is located on private property. Climbing here is a violation of Penal Code 602 (Trespassing) which is a misdemeanor and caries a maximum penalty of $1000 USD and/or up to 6 months in jail. It is unknown whether or not the land owner permits public recreation on their property. Climb at your own risk.
A Twenty-seven minute drive from San Diego or the beaches with a four minute approach....A half hour from couch to on belay. Features Sport, Trad, & bouldering. It is possible to chase shade to avoid sun when almost every other San Diego County crag bakes in the heat for nine months a year. High quality stone, short approach, & summer shade (the drive, shade & approach being what almost all north county and south county stuff lacks).
Getting There
Heading East on Interstate 8 from San Diego, take exit 27 toward Harbison/ Canyon/ Dunbar Lane, Continue on to Alpine Blvd. Turn right onto Arnold Way. turn right onto Harbison Canyon Rd. The cliff is a few minutes past Shadow Hills Elementary School (a good reference if using a smart phone) and visible on the left. A faint trail starts near some barbed wire with visible white boulders (with excellent boulder problems) in the trees. The trail comes in to the base of the cliff from the left. The trail does not start by a yellow chain/ waterworks. A few smaller obscure areas can be found about a 10 minute scramble above the main cliff.
