Birdhead Buttress

Montana > Northwest Region > Great Falls Area > Blackleaf Canyon

Description

The Birdhead Buttress is best located from the parking area prior to approach. The "birdhead" itself is a matter of opinion. It is either looks like the head of a flamingo with a skinny neck jutting from the ground and the beak pointing to the lookers right, or it looks like a bird is poking its beak into the ground (your call). Either way, this area has some classic multi-pitch climbs.

Getting There

Visually locate the bird from the parking area. It is at center of the wall along the approach trail. The routes are on either side of the bird's head.
