Description Suggest change

This area consists of a large, somewhat disjointed cliff band in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Angela. The cliffs are currently home to a dozen or so established routes. Tons of interesting features litter the cliffs, including varying degrees of overhangs, roofs, faces, and some of the more common Donner face and crack climbing affair. The main/upper wall (Big Fish >> Angela's Overhang) is impressively steep and well-featured. Lake Angela Cliffs as a whole does not see much traffic, but is worthy of more attention.

Getting There Suggest change

There are multiple approaches but the easiest, flattest, and most straightforward leaves from Donner Ski Ranch. Park in the huge main lot and walk up the road past the right side of the lodge. Where the road veers left into the condo parking lot, take an obvious trail on your right. After about five minutes, you'll reach Lake Angela and the trail braids in multiple ways, all going generally the same direction (north). Basically, just parallel the east shore of Lake Angela until you reach the northern end, then follow trails, slabs, and beach along the northern end towards the obvious wall. Almost where the beach ends, there's a faint creek, take a right here and you'll join the trail near a large, east-facing boulder. The trail goes left around the boulder and eventually skirts the base of the crag.

The approach sounds more complicated than it is, once you've been out there, it's pretty obvious. Expect 25-30 minutes.

For the main/upper wall, approach via a 4th class scramble up a slab/ramp system, then rap off. The Horniak guide shows the approach accurately and the new rap anchors are on the far left side of the large, slightly sloping ledge that is below the upper wall ledge.
