Mt. Baring is a large peak that resides upstream of Index in the Skykomish Valley. The peak itself houses vanishing point, an (in)famous route that is shrouded in stories of fear, loathing and 45 degree forest climbing. Additional older, less famous, dirtier, uglier routes exist on the main peak. Approaches can be horrifying and dangerous - one of Fred Beckey's partners fell off a cliff to his death on the descent after attempting a route.
