Description
This is the small unassuming dome next to 50-5.7's Dome and doesn't look like much if you're standing up at High Eagle. But the east and south faces have several worthwhile routes. If you're there, you'll probably be climbing with just the people you brought. Great for intermediate climbers who are seeking solitude and fantastic rock. Morning sun, afternoon shade so good on hotter afternoons. If you did all the 5.8's, it'd be a 4-star day!
Getting There
Use the same approach for High Eagle, then hike past the Aerie and then take a small climber's trail down( angling towards 50-5.7's Dome) to a seasonal creek and up to the cluster of 3 blocky domes. 50-5.7's will be hiker's right. Hobbit Dome is the lowest of these three domes and doesn't look like much from this angle. You will need to scramble up to the top of the dome and then 3rd class down to a big ledge and look for anchors. A two rope rap will get you down to the bottom of the east face. The hike from the Aerie takes about 15 minutes.
