Description Suggest change

Wolf Branch and Rich Knob are areas off the Blue Ridge Parkway that offers some potential for bouldering if you’re interested in steep gully’s and scrubbing. There’s a decent amount of large boulders of quality gneiss scattered among the the ridge and below that look to yield some Vfun to moderate problems or more.

First discovered during the quarantine wanting to find something to put some pent up energy into and get the mind right - the longer I shwacked, the more I found. There’s a lot of beautiful plant life and scenery between the drive and the hike. Please tread lightly, respect wildlife and have a basic knowledge of navigating off trail (there is none)

Getting There Suggest change

From Asheville, drive north on the BRP past the Town Mountain road and Rattlesnake Lodge. Drive through the tunnel and continue past Bull Valley overlook on your right. Mile marker 373 will be your last mile marker before the Lane Pinnacle overlook. This overlook will be a split point between the two areas for reference

You can either park at Lane pinnacle overlook, which is a very tight and small pull off, or do a u turn from that overlook and head south for maybe a 1/4 mi or less where you’ll see a small grassy area on your right where a small drainage system collects, just big enough for a car or two to pull off and park. Once parked, start hiking up the rocky creek bed that maintains a pretty steep grade for about 10 minutes. Youll begin to see larger rocks and will come across The first small boulder. Continue up the gully until you come to a large boulder with a large crack and massive dead tree that has fallen onto the back side of it, sitting on top.

Rich Knob/Bull Mountain

Continue past Lane Pinnacle Overlook North.
