Description

A small climbing area of variable rock quality and lots of potential. There are trees up top for TR anchors, accessible by easy scrambles, or routes can be led with gear. Lots of possible routes waiting to be climbed (and cleaned up) out here. Climbing up and over the first wall (Eastern Wall), or hiking around its north end, reveals layer upon layer of further rock awaiting exploration. The first route here is "420 Send It" on the Eastern Wall, put up by local Evanston climber Lilly Sams on her birthday on 4/20/20.

Getting There

The Birthday Crag is a 19.6-mile drive from downtown Evanston, Wyoming, which takes about 30 minutes. From Evanston, drive east on I-80 before taking exit 18 for Rt. 189 north. Once on Rt. 189, drive exactly 4.0 miles north from I-80. The crag is accessible via a dirt road on the west side of Rt. 189 (left side if driving northbound). From there, take the dirt road 1.8 miles west from Rt. 189 until you reach the obvious crag and parking area on the north side of the road. There is also a fence-line/gate into a private ranch at this point. When you reach the gate, you're at the crag.
