Description
Mean Street is set apart from the rest of the cliffs at Rocky Butte because the waterfall (seasonal) nearly drowns out the sound of the freeway and creates an almost pleasant atmosphere.
Mean Street is between Warrior Wall (around the #3 Marker) and Toothpick Wall (#2 Marker). From the top, this section is indicated by the chain link fence and guardrail along the road, which protects from the sharp drop-off. There is no upper cliff-side trail to use here.
Getting There
Like all the areas at Rocky Butte, If it's your first time, take the perimeter trail that begins at the far end of the church parking lot and hike east til you reach a sharp bend at the freeway, then walk back northwest along the freeway until you see the water drainage creek (10 minutes?). IF you're a seasoned Rocky Butte climber take the 4th class scramble "Guardrail Descent Trail" then hike skiers Left when you reach the bottom of the cliff band.

[Hide Comment] Contributed by Dough Fletcher before I moved "Freeway Wall" into "Mean Street" as it's the exact same cliff line with no meaningful differentiation...
Description This is a shaded climbing area that can accessed along the bottom of the wall in between Warrior Wall and Mean Street. The top of this area is marked by the chain link fence and guardrail along the roadside, to the right of the #2 and left of the #3 marker. The top area, along the fence, is a near sheer dropoff so walk on the gravel alongside the road when passing above. The nature of the rock in this area is a bit unique compared to other areas, being most similar to nearby Mean Street. Routes range from about 20 to 50 feet. There are three good tree anchors spaced out up top to setup and breakdown as needed.
Getting There Take the guardrail descent trail that can be found if you continue walking to the left of the #3 marker. If walking along the cliffside trail you should pass the Far East tree anchors on your right, walking towards the Dome on your left, and just keep going until the trail narrows down and descends into a 4th class descent. The guardrail descent trail upper half is mostly wide rock ledges, but the last section will end with a steep ladder on small ledges. At the bottom, you will be standing basically at Simple Twist. You can continue walking forward to get to Mean Street and further on to the Toothpick Wall

[Hide Comment] All ledges/paths to get to tree anchors or chain anchors on the "Freeway Wall" climbs have been heavily cleaned off as of July 2020. All routes have been given a thorough brushing to put them in a good spot for regular use. Continued maintenance would be appreciated to keep the area open to all over time.
