Description

GunRunner Couloir on Mt. Herman has a winter snow climb. In the summer, it has steep hiking. There is potential for more routes.

Getting There

APPROACH
When we approached, we were able to park our car in a small turnoff on the road and started walking directly toward the couloir. The route finding was a little difficult to get to the base, so we used GPS coordinates and my phone to make sure we didn't wander off route to much. I imagine during the day this would be much easier as the couloir would be in sight the whole time. There was a spiderweb of trails, and we pushed through scrub brush in the lower portion. We also occasionally got drawn into small boulderfields which, covered in snow, posed a risk for twisted ankles. We also seemed to meet back up sporadically with a small trail headed in the direction we needed, so I'm sure we didn't take the best route. Once halfway up, it become very obvious as you get drawn into the gully.
