Description
Imagine a world where a global virus pandemic has alterted all aspects of modern life. What do you do when it's socially unethical to climb at busy crags and the local government tells you to stay at home, but you live out of a van? You stay at Shelf for a few weeks and explore remote boulders!
The Social Distancing Boulder is a 15 foot tall chunk of granite that is 2.2 miles away from The Bank Campground. There is climbing on all four sides and problems from V0 to V5. It's easy to keep 6 feet of distance from other humans here!
The boulder was developed to keep our sanity and fitness up in the weird times of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the rock quality is generally very good, and the problems are fun. Nobody goes to Shelf to boulder, but it might be worth visiting if you are ever in a global pandemic. The trail is beautiful and a worthy trail run regardless.

Getting There
This is not near the other Bank Wash Boulders but is approached from The Bank parking lot. Instead of heading down the road towards The Bank and Cactus Cliff, stay on the main road going up past the new toilet. This road gradually goes uphill for the first 15 minutes but will eventually head downhill, and you will see a BLM sign indicating a foot/horse trail on your right. This sign is at 1.4 miles. Take this trail another 0.8 miles through a few open fields and pinyon pine forests. Eventually you will notice the limestone cliffs turn into typical South Platte granite. After 0.8 miles, the large pink boulder will be on your right. It's about 20 feet off the trail.
