Description

This area is great for a quick bit of climbing. The approach is mostly flat and it is the closest climbing to the parking lot. Most of the routes can be toproped from natural anchors which are easily set up. Again, this area is a visual resource, and while some of these routes could be bolted for sport, they would be better left as topropes or free solos. The rock quality is poor on the non-slab routes. Gear placements are often in questionable rock making topropes a very reasonable way to climb the routes here.

Getting There

Take the main trail from the parking lot. D3 will split to the left. Follow D3 left and down into the drainage. After another 0.25 miles or so, you will arrive at The Slabs. Scramble up to the left and climb. It is also possible to reach this area from above by following the D2 trail to its end then continuing along the rim as it separates and rises from the canyon floor. Stay along the rim, and soon you'll notice that you are above The Slabs.
