Description
While often overlooked as a toprope only beginners location, the upper quarry has lines that would be popular almost anywhere. True WI5 ice can be found depending on the year and the lines are 80+ feet in length. Hardly a modest TR spot. The lower quarry provides excellent beginner flows that while they are steep, are often short and picked out, making them good for introductory ice climbing.
Getting There
Get off of route 89 onto route 2 in either Richmond (if coming from north) or Waterbury (if coming from south) until you see the Smilie School. Park at the small parking lot on the east side of the road at the bottom of Bolton Valley Access Rd and walk up to Green Mountain Drive and up to the Bolton Quarry.

**2021/2022 Parking Update**
The Bolton Quarry road has been regraded and will be plowed by CRAG-VT with donations raised by the community. Great thanks to all who pitched in to this effort! The driveway will be plowed for every time it snows 3 or more inches.
To reach the quarry, turn onto Green Mountain Drive and continue up to the top, heading left at the final house. Please do not park anywhere on Green Mountain Drive. There are no exceptions to this. You will likely need snow tires and 4WD to make it up the driveway. If you cannot make it up the driveway, park at the Smilie School, just north of Green Mountain Drive.
If you find yourself stuck, please do not disturb the neighbors, and instead call Black Fork Towing at (802) 434-5751.
Enjoy!
