Description

This site lies in the hollow of a hill and it emerges by surprise to hikers, hence its name. Despite its small size, there is a good range of routes at all levels and the ice is usually of good quality. It faces south and is sheltered from the wind. It's a good place to have fun in a group.
There's a path to setup topropes from the right side of the cliff, you need to rap from trees to reach many route anchors, there's no safety lines.

Ce site repose dans le creux d’une colline et il apparaît par surprise au randonneurs, de là son nom. Malgré sa petite taille, on y trouve un bel éventail de voies à tous les niveaux et la glace est souvent de bonne qualité. Il est orienté face sud et se trouve à l’abri du vent. C’est un bon endroit où aller s’amuser en gang.
Il y a un sentier indique a droite pour aller installer des moulinettes, il faut descendre en rappel pour accéder aux relais de plusieurs voies, il n'y a pas de mains courantes.

Getting There

From St-Raymond de Portneuf, follow the signs to get to the Bras-du-Nord valley by the rang Saguenay.

Pass the valley, pass the Shannahan office and continue a few kilometres north to arrive at the entrance to the Batiscan-Neilson ZEC (the office is closed during the winter.)

After the entrance to the ZEC, the road is sometimes plowed to the bridge over the Neilson River, in which case you can park on the other side of the bridge. Otherwise you must park at the entrance to the ZEC and walk further.

From the bridge, the approach is about 30 minutes (two kilometres) on the private forest road on the left after the bridge.

The Magic Spot will appear on your right, about 100 meters before a major intersection with the logging road.

À partir de St-Raymond de Portneuf, suivre les indications pour se rendre à la vallée du Bras-du-Nord par le rang Saguenay.

Passer la vallée, passer l’accueil Shannahan et continuer quelques kilomètres au nord pour arriver à l’entrée de la ZEC Batiscan-Neilson (l’accueil est fermé durant l’hiver.)

Après l’entrée de la ZEC, le chemin est parfois déneigé jusqu’au pont sur la rivière Neilson, dans ce cas on peut stationner de l’autre côté du pont. Sinon il faut stationner à l’entrée de la ZEC et marcher plus longtemps. Il est très important de ne pas s'aventurer en voiture après le pont dans le chemin forestier privé vers le Magic Spot, cela pourrait compromettre notre accès.

À partir du pont, l’approche est d’environ 30 minutes (deux kilomètres) sur le chemin forestier privé à gauche après le pont.

Le Magic Spot apparaîtra à votre droite, une centaine de mètres avant une importante intersection du chemin forestier.
