Description

Stunning rock rising from alpine "lakes" to jagged ridgelines.

Getting There

To get to the Estany Llong and refugio d Estany Llong you either have to walk 17+/-km up the closed road (or adjacent trail)  that starts on the right about half way between Boi and Caldes de Boi.  Or you can take a taxi and then walk 5 km.

To get the taxi (which is really like a shuttle van, in that you usually have to wait until the van is full before it leaves) go into the town of Boi and look for signs to a large dirt parking lot on the right shortly after you reach town.  Park and walk up to a small square on the right (right of the "main drag road"), the taxi office is on the left. (See Google Earth photo of Boi )  Buy your ticket and wait for the van to fill up. Take note of the times the van will leave for the return from inside the park.  [ See photos in   "09. South of Refugi de Estany Llong" .]

From where the taxi drops you off, Refugi and Estany Llong is about 5 km on a wide, easy path.

From the Refugi take the main trail east (to the lake)  Near the east end of Estany Llong (about 1 km East of the refugio) the main hiking trail will split, take the left branch towards Estany (lake) Redo for stunning views of the cirque. From here, to go higher it is a bit of cross country work.

Alternately, take the right branch then the left branch about a km higher. This left branch leads to the higher Estany del Bergus (The GPS Locator is set to this point) and a scramble route to the Col del Bergus.
