Description
One of the oldest crag in Central Thailand.
This crag was developed in the 90s by local Thai climbers although it remains relatively not known to international visitors due to majority of people flocking to Tonsai/Railay. While this crag lack the serenity and aesthetic due to its roadside location - the potential for further development in the surrounding area exists, along what's currently available boast some very high quality climbing in the range of 5.8, up to possible 5.13.
For anyone looking to escape the crowd and overly polished routes, Khao yoi has enough to entertain 5.10-5.12 sport climbers for several days.
It is important to note that Khao Yoi's proximity to the coast has led to this area being affected by SCC (Stressed Corrosion Cracking) - a condition well-known to our neighboring crags in the south which create hazardous condition for climbing hardware. Fortunately, the local Bangkok Climbing Community was kind enough to offer support and treated this crag with fresh glue in hardwares in 2018. Majority of the routes are now equipped with Titanium + RE500 although several expansion bolts and Stainless-steel glue ins still exist. Please use caution.
There are two main climbing areas - Roadside crag and Temple crag.
