Description

There are a number of bouldering and top-roping areas near the junction of Lyons Reservoir Road and Sonora Pass Highway (US 108) including the Roadside Rocks (Pleasure Dome etc.) and the Beached Whale boulders. The road is closed to vehicle traffic each year after October 31st. But can be walked.

Getting There

The intersection of Lyons Reservoir Road and Sonora Pass Highway (US 108) is located approximately 9.2 miles east from the intersection of Soulsbyville Road and US 108. Park in the parking lot on Sonora Pass Highway outside the gate at the entrance to the Lyons Reservoir Road. The Roadside Rocks are located about 75 feet down the Lyons Reservoir Road and left 50 feet along a short path. The Beach Whale group of boulders can be found by walking down the Lyons Reservoir Road about a 100 feet and turning right up the hill until you come to the Lyons Reservoir mountain bike trail. Follow this out the Lyons Reservoir ridge for about a mile until you begin encountering clusters of boulders along the ridge. The most prominent of these is the Beached Whale boulder with a prominent 5.10-ish OW crack up its west face.
